I am writing this in hopes of it being published in the newspaper so that awareness can be raised about the New Jersey band My Chemical Romance. I have heard many rumors about the band being a “death cult” and that anyone who listens to them cut their wrists or wants to kill him or herself because “MCR told me to”.
First of all, I would like to say that MCR is a band that was formed by lead singer Gerard Way after the two towers were blown up in New York City. Gerard watched the towers fall and say the bodies fall from the buildings and in that moment he wondered what he was doing with his life. He wanted to help others and by forming My Chemical Romance he has.
MCR are hardly a band that wants people to kill themselves and if people actually listened to the lyrics of their songs, they would realize that the lyrics are about love and depression and even suicide yes, but not that they want you to go kill yourself. The lyrics tell people to carry on and to fight. They tell teenagers who are outcasts that they really aren’t because there are five guys out there who have gone through what you’re going through. Maybe they haven’t gone through the exact things your going through, but the just of it is there.
People are afraid to be themselves anymore because of the stereotypical skinny blonde bimbo or the muscular jock that society is telling everyone to be. My Chemical Romance tells every single person to just be his or herself. Should they be told that they’re bad people just because they heard about some guys asking girls to show their “you know what’s” for backstage passes and they told the crowd that night that if anyone ever asks you to do that for backstage passes, “I want you to spit in their face and scream F**K YOU!” Does that sense of respect for women make them bad guys? I don’t think so. And they don’t deserve any of the bad press that people have been giving them. Please, before you just go and assume that My Chemical Romance are a “death cult” because of something you watched on TV, or heard on the radio, please do your research and hear both sides before making your decision.
Also, people are labeled with names they don’t deserve just because they listen to MCR and wear dark colors. Apparently, only people who are Goth or Emo and who are depressed and wear dark clothes listen to MCR. Well I want to say that my mom listens to MCR and she is neither Goth nor Emo nor does she wear dark clothes and she sure as hell does not suffer from depression. She is one of the best women in the world and one of the happiest and she is proud to say that she is an MCR fan. People should be labeled with nothing more than their names.
My Chemical Romance is a band that wants to help people and save lives. When I was depressed and even wanted to kill myself, I listened to “I’m Not Okay (I promise)” and I took another look at my life. I saw that if I could make it through this horrible teenager stage of my life, I could make it through anything. MCR helped me see that. Heck, the other day I was walking down the street and a random lady drove by me and had the gull to wind down her window, yell at me “Go Die!” then drive off! Where does she come off saying that to me when she’s never even met me? Sure, I might wear black all the time and many people consider me a Goth because of it, but if this is the way a grown women treats teenagers who dress in black, I think there is something wrong with today’s society. After that I was slightly depressed, but after listening to an MCR song, I felt better and remembered that that was her problem and not something I should be bothered with.
I’m sure I’m not the only MCR fan out there who is outraged by all of the bad press that has been going on. People don’t understand a band and are frightened by that fear of the unknown, so they strike out and put that band down. What these people don’t see, is that they’re not just hurting the band, they’re hurting the fans too. But we are no ordinary fans. If there’s one thing that every single MCR fan out there knows, it’s to never take sh*t from anyone and to stand up for what you believe in. The haters have had their say, now its time for the lovers to stand up and fight back. MCR is not just a phase. MCR is for life.
Thank You
This I decided to write today after reading about MCR last night... As I hope you know from my journal entry MCR has been getting a lot of bad press lately so I decided today that I was going to write this and send it to the editor of the local newspaper to raise the awarness to stupid parents and people who dont know about it... Also to other MCR fans in my community who might happen to actually read the paper... ya thats right... i read more than the comics >.<

thank you SO much for posting this! Most of the time that I'm awake, I want to blow my fucking brains out, but MCR and a billion other bands who don't even KNOW me save my life everyday; that and the fact that there might actually be someone out there suffering like me.... SO anyway, thanks a tonage for posting this, and MCR forever!!
